What is a DS1 (T1)

A DS1 (also called T1) line can carry 24 digitized voice channels, or it can carry data at a rate of 1.544 megabits per second - roughly 60 times more data than a normal residential modem. A T1 allows for highly secure, point to point data transmission, as well as dedicated Internet Access.

What is a DS3 (T3)

DS3 (also called a T3) transmits information at the rate of 45 megabits per–second (Mbps), which is the equivalent of 28 DS-1s or 672 simultaneous voice conversations over the line. That's enough capacity to handle the bandwidth requirements of heavy Internet users such as larger corporations, universities, and hospitals. Many organizations utilize DS3 lines for multiple services such as voice, data and Internet. Like the T1, the DS3 allows for highly secure data transmission and high levels of dedicated Internet Access.
